What we collect
Nothing. ModPlayerTV has no analytics, no identifiers, no telemetry, no advertising and no third-party tracking code. There is no ModPlayerTV account and no ModPlayerTV server. The only information that ever reaches us is an email you choose to send.
What is kept in your own iCloud
So that your library survives on Apple TV — which may clear an app's local storage at any time — and follows you to another Apple TV, ModPlayerTV keeps the following in your own iCloud account, using Apple's private iCloud database and iCloud key-value storage. Only you can read it; we cannot.
- Your library: each saved tune's title, author, format, length, file name, whether it is a favourite, and where it came from (the network share and path it was copied from, or the folder it was sent from).
- Your playlists and the order of their tunes.
- Your settings, saved network shares (name, address, share name and user name — never the password) and bookmarks.
- Copies of tune files, if Settings → iCloud Copies allows it. By default ModPlayerTV copies the tunes you send from a computer or phone (they have no other place to come back from), together with the sample files they need; "Every Saved Tune" also copies tunes saved from a network share, and "Off" copies nothing. When tvOS removes a tune's file to free space, ModPlayerTV brings it back from this copy. Removing a tune removes its copy.
To stop syncing, sign out of iCloud or turn off iCloud for ModPlayerTV in the Apple TV's Settings. Clear Library in ModPlayerTV's Settings deletes your library, playlists and tune copies from every Apple TV signed in to your iCloud account.
What stays on your Apple TV
- The music files you play or save are stored on the Apple TV. tvOS may remove them when space is low; ModPlayerTV copies a removed file again from its network share, or from its iCloud copy, the next time you play it.
- Network share passwords are stored in the Apple TV's Keychain. They are encrypted by the system, accessible only to ModPlayerTV, and are not copied to iCloud or to another device.
When ModPlayerTV uses the internet
- iCloud, as described above, handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
- Tips. If you choose to leave a tip (Settings → About → Leave a Tip), the purchase is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. ModPlayerTV records nothing about it, and a tip unlocks nothing.
- Nothing else. ModPlayerTV makes no other internet requests of its own.
What travels over your local network
If you add a network share (SMB), ModPlayerTV connects to the server you named, on your own network, with the user name and password you entered, to list and read music files. That traffic does not leave your network.
Library → Add opens a page for sending tunes from a computer or phone: while that page is on screen, the Apple TV shows a web address that a computer or phone on the same network can open to send music files to it. It stops when you leave that page. The files go into your library on the Apple TV (and, as above, into your own iCloud if iCloud Copies allows it).
The visualizer's presets are files you add yourself. You can copy them from a network share, or open the visualizer's "Add from a Computer or Phone" page: while that page (or the preset list's Download tab) is on screen, the Apple TV shows a web address that a computer or phone on the same network can open to send preset files to it. It stops when you leave that page. Presets are stored only on the Apple TV and are not uploaded anywhere.
Permissions
- Local Network. Asked the first time you connect to a network share or open a page for adding tunes or visualizer presets, so ModPlayerTV can reach the server on your network or receive files from your computer or phone. Granting it does not let the app reach anything beyond your local network.
